I recently found my old Nokia 6680 — a 2005 smartphone, the first from the company with a front-facing camera. Comparing it with modern devices, the difference in technology is immediately apparent. Nevertheless, the Nokia 6680 surprises with its functionality and good condition after years. The 2.1-inch screen, 1.3MP camera, and Symbian operating system seem outdated today but were cutting-edge at the time.
Even in 2025, the Nokia 6680 can make calls, though the speaker is at 2005-era quality. While the device supports 3G, access to the modern internet is limited due to the outdated browser that doesn't support HTTPS. The ports and charging also look archaic: there's no 3.5mm audio jack we take for granted today.
The Symbian operating system offers multitasking features and simple apps like calendar, notes, and a browser with limited capabilities. It's fascinating to observe how in 20 years, Nokia created a flagship that was high-tech for its time. Despite the outdated OS, studying the engineering solutions of that era remains incredibly engaging.
