Counterpoint Research shared how Apple tests its devices in extreme conditions, dividing the testing into four categories.
Climate testing: Apple gadgets are tested in harsh conditions, including salt exposure, bright light, and dust. AirPods also undergo testing with artificial sweat and earwax.
Water testing: IP-rated protection is verified. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro has an IP68 rating, meaning it's dust-resistant and can withstand submersion in water up to 6 meters for one hour. Tests also cover resistance to various liquids like soda and juices.
Drop tests: Devices are subjected to drops from different heights and angles onto various surfaces. This helps evaluate resistance to physical damage.
Vibration testing: Gadgets are exposed to vibrations to simulate transportation loads and road trips. This helps improve device structural integrity.
Such testing ensures the reliability and durability of Apple devices in any operating conditions.
